Reality Is Setting In

Mallory learned how to ride her two wheeler today. Crazy enough Rachel will probably not be far behind her!

Reality is starting to set in that my kids are growing up. I feel like I'm saying "this is our last baby to...." Or "pretty soon we won't have any more kids doing..."

Rachel has been in big girl panties for two weeks now. So I would think, I can officially say we have potty trained ALL five children and we are no longer doing diapers. Wow! This year I only have two at home all day. Next year Mallory will be off to school all day and I will only have one baby left at home. As quickly as one baby at home came it will also go. And next year will be Dalton's last year in Elementary school!

I struggle with being content in this season of my life. When the kids are young, throwing lots of fits, diapers, crying, sleepless nights etc... Soon it will be all gone(for the most part). Reality is setting in that it will very soon.

First 5K

By the title saying first 5K, implies there will be others....I don't know about that!

Busy little fingers, Part 2!

Am I really going to look back and laugh...I'm thinking not!

Let me preface this with my in-laws are getting in to town at noon. I have laundry, dishes, and a few other last minute tidy up things to finish before I pick them up. ( My in-laws wouldn't care what my house looked like when they come, but I do.)

Yesterday started off with a bang when Rachel came up to me pointing to her nose asking me "can you get 'dis out" I thought...since when does she ask me to pick her boogies out? Well, she asked because it wasn't a booger, it was a bead that she had lodged up her nostril while in the shower that morning. Awesome!

I got a little freaked out because after five kids, she was our first to do something like this. Amazing , I know! I called the doctor they got her right in. We immediately left the house and went to the doctor to get out this foreign object. Went very well. We got it out no problems. Whew!

I rush back home and put a new movie we got in for the kids. I went downstairs to put a load of dishes in the dishwasher. I'm putting the last dish in the washer and cleaning out the sink and I hear Jack yelling "Rachel is washing her hands with Desitin again!"(notice I said again...yah she did this two days prior..there was another Desitin sitting out somewhere?) I run upstairs to see the picture below. No further explanation needed.
I got Rachel cleaned up and called Matt crying and hysterical. I can't take this anymore! I can't even do the dishes without Rachel tied to me or THIS is what happens!

By this time it's time to leave for the airport to pick up Grandma and Grandpa. We pull up to the airport and we all start piling out of the car and Mallory says " I don't have any shoes" I LOST IT! Started crying again, yelling, foaming at the mouth...I know you other mothers reading this know exactly what I'm talking about.

Her reasoning... she thought we were just going to drive up to the curb and pick them up. So she didn't see any need to get her shoes. The problem--we were going in and then we were going to lunch and other places. Luckily, I had a pair of my shoes in the car. So that is what she wore for the entire day. It was so funny to everyone else who saw her. They all laughed and kidded with her. "Oh how cute"...inside I was saying "Yah how cute...I'm going to kick you in the teeth, you have no idea what I've been through, and there is nothing funny or cute about this day, this situation, or her!"

So the day progresses everything is going along without incident. We are at home hanging out with the kids waiting for Matt to get home from work. Matt's dad is outside with Dalton, Jack and Rachel. Bonnie is inside painting nails. Life is good I have reinforcements in town. I decide to walk outside to see what the kids are doing outside and see Lawrence pulling Rachel out of the car with Black stuff all over her face. She got in the car and decided to put on my makeup. Lovely little girl!
I'm exhausted! I know this is just a season, and this too shall pass. Not fast enough!

Busy little fingers

In the past week Rachel has gotten into:

  • Hot pink nail polish. Covered herself, the computer chair, and the desk with it.

  • Lip gloss. Covered the end table and herself with it. And she got two spots on the couch. She also was eating it cuz it tasted "yummy". My other two tubes from my purse are MIA...wonder where those could be? I'm sure they will pop up in her hands sometime!

  • Black nail polish. She painted it on her hands, the dining room table, and three chairs.

  • Prenatal vitamins(the most scary). She found them in my bathroom drawer and decided they looked like big purple pieces of bubble gum. Came up stairs with black goo on her face. I thought she got the nail polish again! But it smelled so nasty that I knew it wasn't. She showed us what she ate and said it was "spicy and yucky". We called Poison control and all was okay.

  • White out. We have no clue where she even got it! I can't even tell you the last time I saw white out in our house. But she covered herself, the remote control and the couch upstairs in it.

  • Pantry. I came upstairs and Rachel had a 6oz chunk of Velveeta cheese broken in half. One piece in each hand eating it. I can't believe she got it unwrapped!

  • Pantry, again- This time it was six ginger snap cookies. Five in her hand one stuffed in her mouth.

There you have it! No one better ask "where were you guys!" We were around, okay! Things happen!

Anyone have any suggestions how to get lipstick, white out, and lip gloss out of fabric?

Youv'e Got To Be Kidding Me

Is this REALLY a disorder?

People wonder and question why our children are acting out and becoming so much trouble than other generations. It is because society and parents enables them to be that way. We diagnose them with a "disorder" instead of dealing with the problem! This makes me so mad. Kids are being excused from their poor behavior... AND being medicated for it.

The article says "If the child meets at least four of these criteria, and they are interfering with the child’s ability to function, then he or she technically meets the definition of Oppositionally Defiant." Guess I've got FIVE Oppositionally Defiant Disordered children at home then!
